Green Meadows Demonstration Garden

The purpose of this project is to transform an 810-square foot raised
plant bed at the Green Meadows amenity center into a native plant
butterfly/pollinator habitat for the benefit of native species and human
engagement with them. The habitat is designed with 271 native plants
consisting of 24 species. This project helps establish native plant
habitats, normalizes these plants in suburban landscapes, and encourages
homeowners to apply them in their own landscapes.

Volunteers install the garden, relocate plants as needed, and plant
additional beds as needed. Additional activities include periodic
monitoring of the garden for health, removal of invasive species, spring
cleanup guidance, and bio blitzes. In addition, volunteers may engage
with residents about what is being done and conduct workshops to
enable them to create and maintain a native plant butterfly/pollinator
habitat in their own yards.
